Larry's Party - Carrol Shields

Synopsis: twenty years in the life of one Larry Weller, Winnipeg native, younger child and only son of English parents (an upholsterer of custom coach busses and a housewife).

Larry, an angsty Boomer, a florist who becomes North America's leading hedge maze designer.

Larry marries and divorces twice (a car saleswoman-turned-greeting card executive, then a feminist hagiologist), has one child (a future high school track star), insulates his attic, gets a promotion, moves to Chicago, daydreams, starts a business, becomes successful, owns a tuxedo, travels in Europe, has a mid-life crisis, meets other men named Larry, moves to Toronto, dates a scarf-wearing widow, throws a dinner party.

That's everything that happens, yet it spoils nothing. This series of vignettes defies description. The eponymous party makes the whole endeavor worthwhile.
